Virginia "Ginna" Scott

Mar 11, 1957 — Jul 3, 2026

McPherson, KS

Now for Ginna, faith has become sight!

Virginia Ellen Scott was born on March 11, 1957, in Gitega, Burundi, Africa to missionary parents Paul and Estelle Orcutt. She died peacefully at home, surrounded by family on July 3, 2026.

“Ginna” as she was known, attended Windy Hill School for missionary kids, Mweya, Burundi, Africa; Rift Valley Academy in Kenya and graduated from Greenville High School, Greenville, Illinois in 1975. She obtained an AA degree from Central College in McPherson, Kansas, and completed her education at Brown Mackie Business School in 1979.

In 1979, Ginna was united in marriage to Thomas Scott. Their union produced a daughter, Brienne.

Professionally, Ginna worked as a customer service representative, first at Bradford National Bank in Greenville, Illinois, then at Deaconess Hospital in Oklahoma City. She completed her last 22 years of employment at Farmers Alliance Insurance Company in McPherson, Kansas.

Ginna worked to live; she did not live to work! She preferred taking adventurous trips to far-flung destinations like, Brazil, Uruguay, England or Scotland. Domestically, she and Tom would fly to a selected destination like San Francisco or New York City, rent a car and explore! A favorite destination was Navarre Beach, Florida where Ginna spent many happy hours collecting sea shells, walking in the waves or splashing in the water. She loved the vastness of the ocean and the smell of sea salt in the air.

At home, Ginna could be found loving on her rambunctious grandchildren, doing electronic computer puzzles, creating Mixbook albums of her travel adventures, attending ladies Bible study or hanging out with friends.

Ginna was known for her joyful attitude and her fun sense of humor, spreading positivity wherever she went. More importantly, Ginna was a serious student of scripture, nurturing a deep spirituality and love of God. These qualities helped her navigate the cruelties of cancer which claimed her life all too soon.

Ginna was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 47 years, Thomas; their daughter, Brienne (Jason) Toler; her grandchildren Charlene, Damon, Alexia (Wiard), Dallas, Verity, Gideon, Judah, Obadiah, and great-grandson, Jace.

A private burial will take place at the Heart Land Prairie Cemetery, New Cambria, Kansas.

A celebration of life will take place at the First Baptist Church in McPherson, Kansas on Monday, July 20, at 10:00 AM with Pastors John Pattison and Fred Miller officiating.

Memorial contributions can be made to Kibogora Hospital in care of Free Methodist Missions, Indianapolis, Indiana and can be mailed to Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.
