Shirley Ann Gibbs was born on November 20, 1956, in Gary, IN, the oldest of seven children born to Arrie Louise Pulliam. Shirley went to sleep in Jesus on October 25, 2024, after battling small bowel cancer for two years. She was 67 years of age.
Shirley was raised in Hayti, MO, graduating from Hayti High School in 1974. She attended McPherson College where she met her future husband, Ray Gibbs. The two were joined in marriage on April 28, 1979, the parents of three children: LyChelle, Eryka, and Raymond II. Shirley worked for several years at Sterling Drug and stayed with the company through all of its name changes, retiring early when the company was called Hospira. Even after this first retirement, she worked a few other jobs before retiring again from Farmers Alliance. Shirley was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, McPherson. Wherever she was, whether at church or at work or out in public, she ministered with her singing.
Shirley is survived by husband Ray Gibbs; daughter LyChelle Lawrence (Joel); son Raymond Gibbs II, all of McPherson, KS; brother Leotis Pulliam (Alfreida) of Tampa, FL; sisters Paulette Johnson and Barbara Diane Johnson, both of Columbia, MO; brother Patrick Pulliam of Kennett, MO; and brother Samuel Johnson of St. Louis, MO; as well as seven grandchildren and innumerable nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her grandmother Vinnie Johnson; her mother Arrie Louise Pulliam; her brother Walter Pulliam; and her daughter Eryka Gibbs.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 05, 2024, at the First Christian Church in McPherson, KS. A visitation and viewing will be held from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the church. The final resting place will be in the McPherson Cemetery. Because Shirley LOVED the color blue, the family encourages attendees to wear blue of any shade or hue.
