Ronald “Smitty” Gene Smith, 87, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 28, 2020, at McPherson Health & Rehab. He and his wife, Marjorie, owned and operated McPherson Laundry for many years.

Ron was born on June 8, 1933, in McPherson, KS, the son of Adrian M. Smith, Sr. and Sylvia Irene (Rienbolt) Smith. He graduated from McPherson High School in 1951. On December 21, 1958, Ron was united in marriage to Marjorie A. Johnson at New Gottland Lutheran Church, McPherson. She preceded him in death on July 16, 2015.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and then served in the Army National Guard. He was a member of American Legion Post #24, B.P.O.E. 502, and longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, all of McPherson. He was a former volunteer for the McPherson Fire Department and most recently for the McPherson ReUse It Center. For many years, he sang with the McPherson Light Capital Singers.

Survivors include: his two sons, Brian Smith and Troy Smith, both of McPherson, KS; a brother, Adrian “Sonny” M. Smith, Jr. of Tulsa, OK; a sister, Anita Joy Rhodes of Lenexa, KS; and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brother, Gerald Smith.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to noon on Monday, January 4, 2021, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with a graveside service with Military Honors to follow at 1:00 PM, Monday, at New Gottland Lutheran Church Cemetery, McPherson, with Rev. Tim Leaf officiating. Social distancing and masks will be required.
