Roma Jo Roebke

Roma Jo Roebke, 83, of Lindsborg, KS, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at her home.

Roma was born on August 13, 1943, in Newton, Kansas, the daughter of Philip A. and Emma Verena (Goebel) Goering. She graduated from Hoisington High School and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Emporia State Teachers College. On December 24, 1964, she was united in marriage to Craig Normandin Roebke in Elbing, Kansas.

Roma devoted her life to teaching, nurturing, and caring for others. She taught physical education, health, and psychology at Centre High School in Lost Springs, Kansas. Her love for children extended far beyond the classroom. After high school, she worked in an orphanage, an experience that helped shape her lifelong commitment to providing children with love, security, and a sense of belonging.

Roma was a founding member and past president of the Kansas Foster Parent Association and opened her heart and home to 27 foster children over the years. Caring for children was one of her greatest priorities, and she believed deeply that every person was valued and important. She was known for her thoughtfulness and consideration of others, always putting their needs before her own and offering kindness wherever it was needed.

A woman of strong faith, Roma attended Lindsborg Covenant Church. She also had a deep appreciation for the land and was particularly interested in organic farming methods for the family farm ground. Her life reflected a quiet dedication to faith, family, children, and service to others.

Roma’s legacy will live on through the many lives she touched, especially the children and families who experienced her compassion, generosity, and unconditional love.

Survivors include her loving husband, Craig of the home; a daughter, Ruth (Aaron) Lorson of Harrisonburg, VA; grandchildren, Elijah, Caleb, and Sterling Lorson; foster son, Kevin (Loraine) McGahee of Shawnee, KS; and many extended relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Vern Goering; her foster son, Larry McGahee; and her foster son, Steven Purdy, who passed away just hours after Roma, making their passing a profound loss for their family.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at the Lindsborg Evangelical Covenant Church. A private graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 30, at First Mennonite Cemetery, Moundridge. A celebration of Roma’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 23, at Lindsborg Evangelical Covenant Church.
