Richard "Dick" Wiens

December 1, 1944 — May 8, 2026

rural McPherson, KS

Richard “Dick” Henry Wiens, 81, of rural McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away after a very brief battle with pancreatic cancer on Friday, May 8, 2026, surrounded by family at the Harry Hynes Hospice Center in Wichita.

Dick was born on December 1, 1944, in Hutchinson, KS, the son of Henry R. and Rubena M. (Enns) Wiens. He attended West Liberty School and Plainview School in rural Inman before graduating from Inman Rural High School in 1962.

On March 26, 1966, Dick was united in marriage to Carol Suzanne Anderson at New Gottland Lutheran Church in rural McPherson. They had met each other at the McPherson County Fair in 1962. Dick and Carol recently celebrated 60 years of marriage and built a life centered around faith and family.

Dick worked at Cessna Fluid Power and Barkman Honey prior to working as a machinist for CertainTeed and American Maplan. Following retirement, he worked in maintenance at Home State Bank & Trust. Throughout his many years of employment, Dick faithfully farmed and raised cattle — work that was truly closest to his heart.

He was a devoted member of New Gottland Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council as both chairman and treasurer. Dick was also a past president and board member for the Canton-Galva School District, served on the McPherson County Extension Council, and dedicated 16 years to the McPherson County Rural Water District #4 Board, where he was currently serving as president.

Early in his and Carol’s relationship, Dick owned two Pontiac GTOs — a 1964 and a 1967 — but throughout his life, his greatest joy was always his family. He especially loved taking his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren on rides in the farm equipment and was always willing to lend a helping hand to neighbors and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carol; three sons, Rodney (Debra) Wiens of Colwich, KS, Galen (Jennifer) Wiens of McPherson, KS, and Gordon (Carrie) Wiens of Wichita, KS; siblings, Don (Doris) Wiens of Kensington, KS, Larry (Marna) Wiens of McPherson, KS, and Mary Ann (Jim) Peters of Sterling, CO; seven grandchildren, Gabrielle (Joel) Montes, Lane (Grace) Wiens, Grace (Andrew) Hauff, Caleb (Emma) Wiens, Reed (Kaylee) Wiens, Ethan Wiens (Haven Pruitt), and Aiden Wiens; five great-grandchildren, Penelope Hauff, Henry Wiens, Rosalie Hauff, Alida Wiens, and Hadley Wiens; along with many extended relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Harlan Wiens; and sister, Dorothy Sand.

Dick will be remembered for his steady faith, strong work ethic, generous spirit, and the deep love he had for his family, farm, and community.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:30 PM, Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at New Gottland Lutheran Church. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, May 14, at New Gottland Lutheran Church with Pastor Laura Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the New Gottland Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Memorial donations are suggested to New Gottland Lutheran Church in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.
