MaryLou Baird

May 14, 1929 — March 9, 2022

MaryLou Baird, 92, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at Legend of Hutchinson Senior Living in Hutchinson, KS.

MaryLou was born on May 14, 1929, in Tecumseh, NE, the oldest of six children born to Walter Frederick Bryan Hahn and Aretta Ruth (Kelley) Hahn.  She graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1947.  On September 9, 1947, MaryLou was united in marriage to Marvin Jesse Baird in Tecumseh.  He preceded her in death on August 21, 1993.

She grew up and was confirmed in the Lutheran church.  When married, she and Marvin attended the First Baptist Church.

Prior to high school graduation, MaryLou worked for her father as a bookkeeper and cashier.  From 1973 to 1978, she was an insurance agent for Walter Krehbiel, National Farmers Union Insurance, and prior to this employment, she was the bookkeeper and assistant manager for Howard Huber, “Hanks” from 1966 to 1973. She also did bookkeeping jobs for a variety of other businesses.

MaryLou enjoyed reading and needlework, including embroidery, crocheting, and quilting.  She always loved dogs and had several over the years.  The day she married Marvin and the birth of each of her children were the most significant memories for her.  Raising her children and seeing them grow into caring adults made her most happy.

Celebrating family birthdays and coming together for family gatherings were always special times for her.  She was grateful that she was able to care for Marvin during his long illness, learning how to be a nurse while still taking care of home and business.

MaryLou is survived by four children, Suzanne Becker (Mitchell) of Moundridge, KS, Janelle Hunt (Les) of McPherson, KS, Marcie Berens (Frank) of Buhler, KS, and Laurie Wiziarde (Ken) of McPherson, KS; daughter-in-law, Becky Baird of McPherson, KS; sister, Linda Holthus of Tecumseh, NE; 12 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Micheal Baird; and siblings, Shirley Hutt, Robert Hahn, Kenneth Hahn, and Sondra Mandery.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, March 14, 2022, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 PM on Sunday at Stockham Family Funeral Home.  To view a livestream broadcast of the service, please click on the following link: https://evt.live/funeral-service-for-marylou-baird
