She then furthered her education and received her credentials as a Licensed Practical Nurse, graduating from the McPherson School of Practical Nursing.

Mary was a member of the McPherson Opera House and Royal Neighbors of America. She also volunteered at Apt. 6, the resale store for the McPherson Opera House. She enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens. She liked birds and outdoor activities.
