Linda K. Schmalzried

Linda Kay Schmalzried, age 73, passed away on October 5, 2026. Born on August 1, 1953, Linda grew up in Dighton, Kansas, where she attended high school and was actively involved in many activities including cheerleading and track.

As a homemaker and dedicated worker, Linda spent many years at home with the kids then later at MidTech and Triangle Trucking—as a driver, this gave her joy to travel and see many sights across the United States.

Linda had a vibrant spirit, outspoken voice, and a wide range of hobbies. She loved working on crafts, hunting for treasures at garage sales, and repurposing items. Over the years, she enjoyed crocheting, cross-stitching, playing softball, skiing and tubing trips at the lake and gathering with her parents and family for card games. Above all, Linda cherished her time with her children and grandchildren. Whether they were watching movies, taking day trips to the lake, playing board games, pool parties, or cooking out on the BBQ, those moments surrounded by family brought her great happiness and joy. She also held a special place in her heart for all her pets, especially her beloved pets Gizmo, Harley, Maggie, Bella, and Mya.

Linda’s greatest pride and legacy was her family. She is survived by her children, Greg Schmalzried and Lisa (Matt) Gamber; her brother, Keith (Shelly) Doris; six cherished grandchildren - Nathaniel, Brittany, Cayla, Shannon, Amanda, Cody; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in passing by her parents, Leo "Doodle" and Nellie Doris; her brother, Jim Doris; and her beloved sons, Darren Schmalzried and Dan Schmalzried.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, October 12, 2026, at Andover Cemetery (Windom, KS).
