Larry Alan Kubin, 79, of rural McPherson, Kansas, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, July 16, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Larry was born on August 30, 1946, to Quentin Jefferson and Margaret Madelyn (Duke) Kubin. He was raised on the family dairy farm, where he developed a strong work ethic. He graduated from McPherson High School with the Class of 1964 before earning a degree in Diesel Mechanics from Pittsburg State University.
On May 5, 1968, Larry married the love of his life, Teri Lynn Wilson, in McPherson. Together they built a life rooted in family, and were blessed with two daughters, Christy and Candice.
Farming was Larry's true passion. Until his retirement in 2004, he devoted himself to cultivating wheat, corn, soybeans, and milo, taking great pride in the land he worked and the life he built on the farm. In addition to farming, he worked as a truck driver for CertainTeed. During the Vietnam Era, Larry honorably served his country in the National Guard. He also faithfully served his community for many years as treasurer of Jackson Township.
Larry embraced life with a spirit of adventure. He was an enthusiastic member of the Flatlanders Jeep Club and especially cherished exploring the rugged beauty of the Colorado mountains. His love of travel took him to 49 of the 50 states, creating memories and stories along the way. He had a special affection for animals, particularly dogs and cats. Friends and family also knew him for enjoying a Marlboro cigarette.
Above all else, Larry's greatest joy was his family. Nothing made him happier than gathering everyone together at the farm, where laughter, conversation, and simple moments became treasured memories. His grandchildren held an especially special place in his heart, and they could always count on Grandpa to greet them with M&M's or a Dum Dum sucker tucked away just for them. His love for his family was constant, generous, and unwavering, and the legacy of that love will remain with them always.
Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Teri; two daughters, Christy Wolf (Todd) and Candice Potter (Dale), all of McPherson, KS; siblings, Greg Kubin (Deb) of Goddard, KS, Gene Kubin (Gloria) of Baldwin City, KS, and Elaine Sanchez (Alex) of Portland, OR; mother-in-law, Joyce Wilson of McPherson, KS; grandchildren, Kylie Regehr, Zach Regehr (Brooke), Grace Regehr, Megan Bernhardt (Dylan), Jacob Potter (Chase), and Tyler Potter (Abby); great-grandchildren, Hudson Bernhardt, Wesley Bernhardt, Calvin Bernhardt, Bryson Regehr, and one more to be born in December; and many nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Quentin and Madelyn Kubin, and father-in-law, Darrell Wilson.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. A private graveside service with Military Honors will be held on Friday, July 24, at the McPherson Cemetery.
