Keith P. Ivers, 86, of McPherson, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at The Cedars in McPherson. He was a retired professor and coach at Central Christian College. He was born February 16, 1929, in Mount Carmel, Illinois, the son of Kilby P. and Emma (Linn) Ivers. He graduated from the Mount Carmel High School in 1947 and later earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Greenville College in Greenville, Illinois and a Master’s Degree from Indiana State University.
On June 4, 1951, Keith married Betty Lou Smith in Greenville, Illinois. They have been McPherson residents since 1955, moving from Oakdale, Kentucky.
Keith was a member of the Free Methodist Church where he served for many years as Sunday School Superintendent. He was also the founder of Craftsmen for Christ and a member of the McPherson (Noon) Kiwanis Club.
Survivors include: his wife, Betty of the home; three children, Karl Ivers (Kristin) of Williamsport, PA; Dawn Porter (Steve) of McPherson, KS, and Calvin Ivers (Julia) of McPherson, KS; nine grandchildren, Allison Ivers, Rachel Ivers, Drew Porter (Charity), Lane Porter (Lizzie), Adam Porter, Caleb Porter, Wyatt Porter, Karilyn Sanders (Melvin), and Kevin Ivers (Dawn); and two great-grandchildren, Silas Porter and Wes Porter. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two half-sisters, Blanche Nelson and Eva Bennett.
The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at McPherson Free Methodist Church with Rev. Deborah Somerville and Rev. Tom Griffith officiating. Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday, May 12, at Stockham Family Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
