George Duane Mowbray

G. Duane Mowbray, 83, a lifetime McPherson County, KS resident, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 22, 2021, with family by his side at McPherson Hospital. He was a boiler fireman, turbine operator, and maintenance foreman at McPherson Water & Electric and Board of Public Utilities for 46 years, retiring on April 1, 2003.

George Duane Mowbray was born on November 1, 1937, at his home in McPherson, KS, the son of Walter and Gladys Ava (Pancost) Mowbray. He graduated from McPherson High School in 1956. On September 4, 1960, Duane was united in marriage to Betty Joyce Briggs at the Andover Lutheran Church, Windom. They celebrated 60 years of marriage before her passing on September 6, 2020.

He served in the United States Army as a Medical Corpsman at the Brooke Army Medical Hospital, San Antonio, TX from October 3, 1960 to October 3, 1962.

Duane was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he was actively involved in church maintenance for many years.

Survivors include: a son, Darin Mowbray (Billi) of McPherson, KS; a daughter, Darla Mowbray of Huntington Beach, CA; three grandchildren, Seth Mowbray (Catherine), Samantha Reitsma (Chance), and Danielle Leiker; and three great-grandchildren, Lillyth Huff, Emery Huff, and Averi Reitsma; and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and five siblings, Ava May Chamberlain, Clinton William Mowbray, Helen Louise Unruh, Marjorie June Blair, and Anna Belle Barnes.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, July 28, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the McPherson Cemetery.
