She graduated from Lexington High School in 1958 and from the Patricia Stevens School of Modeling in Chicago in 1960. Gay married Lloyd Douglas Clothier on January 1, 1961, in Miami, OK, and they were blessed with four beautiful children: Melodie, Michelle, Bert, and Melissa.

In 1985, Gay began a 35-year career as a business owner when she opened GM Clotheshorse in Wichita, KS. She had a passion for sharing her love of fashion with her clients and was often praised for helping those who shopped in her store look and feel fabulous. Gay also put on some of the best fashion shows in Wichita for local civic groups.
Fred and Gay enjoyed both hosting and attending family gatherings, throwing amazing Fourth of July weekends and Christmas “Jammy” parties. Gay loved her family, decorating her home, traveling, and spending time with friends.
