Fern Amelia Wilson, 82, of McPherson, KS and formerly of Hesston, KS and Colorado, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, surrounded by family at McPherson Health and Rehab.
She was born on March 30, 1942, in Hays, KS, the daughter of Gabriel Joseph and Barbara Marie (VonFeldt) Zimmerman. She graduated from Girls Catholic High School of Hays. On July 25, 1970, Fern was united in marriage to Harold Amos Wilson in Hutchinson, KS. He preceded her in death on September 14, 1998.
Fern worked as a polisher at American Maplan in McPherson and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Newton.
Survivors include her daughters, Suzie Taylor (Danny) of Northglenn, CO and Sandy Kelly (Danny) of Hesston, KS; a step-son, Harold Wilson, Jr. of Hutchinson, KS; brother, Jim Zimmerman (Carla) of Kansas City; three sisters, Gloria Callow (Doug), Betty Ridout, and Barbara Henderson, all of Greeley, CO; six grandchildren, Joshua Hayes, Zachary Hayes, Justin Tillett (Patricia), Jeremy Slick (Alicia), Destyne Bennethum (Erik), and Jessica Unruh (Keith); 12 great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a son, Donnie Jo Ward.
A Rosary will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, August 9, 2024, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Newton, KS. A graveside service will follow at 11:30 AM, Friday, August 9, at Fairlawn Burial Park in Hutchinson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The Alzheimer’s Association in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.
