Elizabeth "Liz" Johnson

Wichita, KS

Elizabeth ‘Liz’ (Walline) Johnson passed away peacefully, July 22, 2025, after struggling these past five years with dementia.

Born December 29, 1946, in McPherson, KS to Ruby and Daniel Walline, Liz graduated from McPherson High School in 1964 and then from Wesley School of Nursing in Wichita in 1967.

She married Louis Johnson of Wichita in 1966, spending nearly 59 years together. Liz worked briefly as a registered nurse but kept her certifications active until late in life. She worked many years for Boeing Aircraft Company in both Everett, WA and Wichita, KS. She also worked for the VA Hospital at Ft. Lyon, CO. After retirement and relocation back to Wichita and finally Goddard, KS, she volunteered countless hours at Saint Teresa’ s Hospital in Wichita.

Liz was an artist at heart and was always sewing, crocheting, doing ceramics, painting, crafting, or quilting something special and usually for the joy and benefit of someone else. Until her illness, she was active with the PieceMakers Quilting Ministry at her church creating blankets and quilts for those in need.

Survivors include: husband, Louis Johnson of Wichita, KS; son, Robert Johnson and wife Sabine of Minneapolis, MN; daughter, Jennifer Thimesch and husband Rod of Garden Plain, KS; sisters, Karen Mendoza of McPherson, KS and Carol Henriksen of Las Vegas, NV; four grandchildren, Christopher (Megan) Johnson, Philip Johnson, Nick (Jill) Thimesch, Kenzie Thimesch; and two great-grandchildren, Maggie and Henry. Preceding Elizabeth in death are her parents Ruby and Daniel Walline and brother, Larry Walline.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at Stockham Family Funeral Home in McPherson, KS. Liz will be laid to rest in a private burial service at Empire Cemetery in Galva.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Liz’s name with PieceMakers Quilting Ministry at Believers Southern Baptist Church in Wichita, KS in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 N. Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.
