Donald Everett “Donnie” Christensen, 82, a lifetime McPherson resident, passed away on Nov. 24, 2018, in Louisville, Kentucky, surrounded by family at Valhalla Post Acute. He was retired from the United States Postal Service after 42 years of service.
Donald was born on July 16, 1936, in McPherson, the son of Nels Christian and Vera Leona (Beam) Christensen.
He graduated from McPherson High School in 1954. On July 24, 1957, Don was united in marriage to Mary Mae “Mickey” Richert in McPherson, KS. She preceded him in death on May 15, 2009.
He was active member of the First Baptist Church in McPherson where he served as a past deacon, Sunday School teacher, youth group advisor, and nursery worker. He was currently a member of the Joy Sunday School class.
Donald also was a volunteer for various organizations, most recently the McPherson County Humane Society.
He was an avid sports fan, who had coached various youth teams, and had high school basketball season tickets for 50 years. He also would watch or listen to every Kansas City Royals game he could.
Survivors include: son, Ed Christensen and wife, Kristi, of Louisville, KY; two grandchildren, Cade Christensen and Kiley Christensen of Louisville, KY; foster-son, David Blackman, and wife, Nancy, and their two sons; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of long-time friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and brother, Howard Christensen.
The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, December 8, 2018, at First Baptist Church, McPherson. Burial will be in McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday, Dec. 7, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
