Deborah A. Koehn

Deborah A. Koehn, 71, of Galva, Kansas, peacefully passed away on Monday, September 7, 2026, surrounded by family at McPherson Hospital.

Deb was born in December 1954, the loving daughter of Harold and Ellen (Goering) Schrag. She graduated from Moundridge High School in 1972 and went on to build a life centered around family, friendship, hard work, and creativity.

Throughout her working years, Deb was employed as a painter at Excel Industries in Hesston and later worked as a light tester at Sterling Drug/ Abbott Laboratories in McPherson.

Deb had a wonderfully creative spirit and found great joy in working with her hands. She enjoyed a variety of crafts, including crocheting, embroidery, and painting. She often shared her creations with others, selling some and generously giving others to family and friends. Her creativity was matched by her generous heart and her genuine desire to care for those she loved.

Family was the most important part of Deb’s life. She was a loving and devoted presence in the lives of those around her and always made certain that her family was cared for. Her kindness, generosity, and thoughtfulness will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Survivors include her significant other, Chester “Junior” Russell of the home; daughter, Elizabeth “Betsy” Conquest (Joe Simons) of Bennett, Colorado; step-daughters, Jamey Koehn of Washington, D.C. and Jema Koehn of McPherson, Kansas; siblings, Dawn Schrag of St. Joseph, Missouri, and Denice Micheaux (Terrance) of Bel Aire, Kansas; granddaughter, Olivia Koehn of Maryland; grandson, Trey Conquest of Parker, Colorado; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Dean Schrag.

Deb leaves behind a legacy of love expressed through the simple, meaningful ways she cared for others. Her creativity, generosity, and devotion to family will remain cherished memories in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

A celebration of life (come & go event) will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Saturday, October 24, 2026, at The Yard (108 W. 2nd St., Galva, KS 67443). A private graveside service will be held at Empire Cemetery.
