Curtis G. Holton, 59, from Canton, KS, passed away on September 24, 2024, at Angels Care Hospice in Wichita, KS.
Curtis was born on May 15, 1965, in Canton, KS to Russel & Ruth Holton. He attended Canton-Galva High school and then went on to work at Agco for 30 plus years. He was a dedicated father who worked hard to support his family.
Curtis’ favorite drink was Diet Pepsi, always having one in hand. He loved animals, especially dogs. He helped create the love of animals in his daughters, especially in Bailey’s. He was an avid country music fan, with Carrie Underwood being a favorite.
He was a big K-State football and Duke basketball fan, always watching games when he could. Heather remembers him watching football games on the weekends as she was growing up. She was not a fan of football, but every once in a while, she’d find herself watching a bit of it with him. Of course, then, she’d have a million questions, and when she did, he’d patiently explain the game to her. He helped develop her love for it. And now, she’s a big KC Chiefs fan and watches every game.
One year on Heather’s birthday or near it, she and her father watched the NCAA tournament together. This particular year, her sister was sick, so, they were unable to do anything for her birthday. However, they all watched the KU tournament game together. Even though Curtis was a K-State fan, he still watched the game with his girls. He would tell them every time KU missed a big play, that KU was going to lose the game, since he wasn’t a KU fan. To this day, Heather is still a big March Madness fan, and when she moved away and the tournament fell on her birthday, Curtis, when calling to wish her a Happy Birthday, would always talk to her about the NCAA tournament. They would talk about the upsets and then how their teams were doing, and of course, his team was Duke.
Curtis always took care of his daughters. He made sure Heather’s, Mercedes’, and Bailey’s needs were taken care of and assisted them with anything they needed. While growing up, a special memory the girls have was when they had dance class. One year at the annual recital, the girls had a daddy-daughter dance number. He did not want to do it, but did it for his girls. Another memory while growing up was the quality time spent with their dad on his parents’ farm. Curits loved to help out on the farm. The girls remember taking many tractor rides with him.
Curtis was preceded in death by his grandparents and his uncle.
He is survived by his parents, Russel and Ruth Holton, Canton, KS; sister, Cindy Holton, Canton, KS; daughters, Heather (Ryan) Marcotte, Kearney, MO; Mercedes (Justin) Bryson, McPherson, KS; and Bailey Holton, Manhattan, KS; four grandkids, Damien, Aerianna, Annabelle, & Katie.
