Charles "Chip" Quane

Jul 16, 1960 — May 27, 2026

Wichita, Kansas

Charles “Chip” T. Quane, 65, of Wichita, KS, and formerly of McPherson County, KS, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at Ascension Via Christi-St. Francis RMC in Wichita.

Chip was born on July 16, 1960, in Libertyville, IL, to Edward Joseph and Elizabeth Anne (Braun) Quane. He graduated from Round Lake High School in Illinois before earning his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. On August 14, 1982, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Dawn Kathleen Groves, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Round Lake, IL. They were blessed with two children, Allison and Patrick.

Chip pursued a successful career in engineering and served as an Engineering Manager for Hospira in McPherson. Outside of work, he embraced life with enthusiasm and curiosity, especially through his many hobbies and passions.

Chip had a deep love for motorcycles and greatly enjoyed participating in the annual McPherson County Toy Run. He often gathered with fellow riders at his garage in Inman before setting off on memorable trips across the country. Those journeys, shared with Dawn, friends, and fellow riders, brought him great joy as they explored new vistas, scenic highways, and the camaraderie of the open road.

He also had a passion for vintage cars and bicycles and was known as a true tinkerer who could often be found restoring, repairing, or simply enjoying them. In recent years, he especially treasured the friendships he made with the “Coasters,” a group of enthusiasts devoted to vintage bicycles from 1960 and earlier.

Music was another important part of Chip’s life. He played guitar in several local bands over the years, including the McPherson-based band “Final Crank.” He was an avid Chicago sports fan! He faithfully cheered on the Chicago Blackhawks and Chicago Bears and enjoyed spending time watching sporting events as well as music documentaries.

Above all else, Chip cherished his family. Nothing brought him greater happiness than spending time with his children and grandchildren, who held a special place in his heart and filled his life with immeasurable joy.

He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Dawn; a daughter, Allison Cokeley; a son, Patrick Quane; four grandchildren, Avery (16), Vivian (15), Remington (11), and Lennan (10); four brothers, Dan (Ginny), Mike, Joe (Sharon), and Dave; two sisters, Kathy Sowa and Patricia Rode (Bob); and many extended relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Tim.

A celebration of life (come & go) will take place on Sunday, June 14, 2026, from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM, at Stockham Family Funeral Home, McPherson.
