Listen to Obituary

Carolyn “Sue” Foley was born on June 15, 1947, in Hiawatha, Kansas, to Donald Marvin and Betty Evelyn (Potter) Sechler. She was the oldest of four children.

Sue married Jim Schroeder in 1963, and they were blessed with two sons, Todd and Brent. She later married Daniel Foley in 1977 and spent the remainder of her years with Kenneth Washington by her side.

Sue lived a vibrant and adventurous life and had a true appreciation for the finer things. One of her greatest loves was traveling. During her 79 years, she explored and visited many countries, creating memories and experiences that she cherished. She had a particular love for Italy and the beautiful Italian countryside. She also enjoyed a good beach, dressing up in a beautiful cocktail dress, and sharing a formal dinner with those she loved. Sue was a generous woman and often included family members in her travel adventures, giving them memories they would treasure for years to come.

Sue had a variety of careers throughout her life. In her younger years, she worked as a model. Later, she traveled with her husband Daniel as they opened Taco Tico restaurants throughout the Midwest and Southern states. In her later years, she worked for JCPenney as an interior designer, a career that eventually took her to the Indiana area.

Sue had a natural talent and an exceptional eye for beauty. Her homes looked as though they had come straight from the pages of an interior design magazine. She loved beautiful things and had a gift for creating beautiful spaces wherever she lived.

Sue spent her final years in the Wichita area before moving to McPherson to be closer to her family.

Many of us knew her simply as Susie. She was a fun and loving aunt, a beloved daughter, a cherished sister, a grandmother, and a wonderful friend. She brought her own special energy and personality to the lives of those around her and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her siblings, Michael Sechler (Rita Biesel) of Hillsboro, Kansas; Steve (Melissa) Sechler of McPherson, Kansas; and Jo Ellen Wilson (Bryan Westerman) of Hutchinson, Kansas; her son, Brent Schroeder (Laurie) of Wichita, Kansas; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and loved ones.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Todd Schroeder.
