Carl Francis Young, 97, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2015, at his home in McPherson. He retired from NCRA after 31 years. He also worked as a mechanic at Hutcherson Safety Lane and a truck driver for Groendyke and Sprague Oil Company.
Carl was born on July 5, 1917, in Douglass, KS, the son of Cyrus and Myrtle (Hauser) Young. He graduated from Douglass High School at age 16. He was united in marriage to Roma H. Decker on August 26, 1939, at Emmanuel Mennonite Church, Moundridge, KS. Roma passed away on March 1, 2000. On September 7, 2003, he married Dolores A. (Everhart) Johnson at First United Methodist Church, McPherson, KS.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Good Sam Camping Club, Life Member of B.P.O.E. #502, and past president of OCAW Local #58.
Survivors include: wife, Dolores of the home; son, Douglas Young and wife, Sharilyn, of Tahlequah, OK; daughter, Carlene Berg and husband, Jim, of Grand Junction, CO; step-son, Lawrence Johnson of Hot Springs Village, AR; eight grandchildren, Heather Anderson and husband, Bryan, Trina Nostrand and husband, Monty, Autumn Berg, Jessica Young and husband, Tim, Charley Young and wife, Teresa, and Megan Young, Tobin Young and wife, Bobbie, and Arriane Alexander; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cyrus and Myrtle, first wife, Roma, daughter, Ramona Kay Young, and sister, Ruth Ratliff.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 AM, Friday, March 6, 2015, at First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 5, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
