Carl Meyer Ade, 89, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021, at The Cedars in McPherson, KS.

Funeral service will be held Monday, Dec. 6, at 10:30 a.m. at McPherson First United Methodist Church with Deacon Jeanne Koontz officiating. Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, Dec. 5, with family receiving friends from 2-4 p.m. at Stockham Family Funeral Home, McPherson. Born May 9, 1932, at Kansas City, MO, Carl was adopted by Gotlob and Dora Meyer Ade and raised on their farm near Gypsum, KS. He attended Chapel Hill country school and graduated from Gypsum High School in 1950 where he played baseball and basketball. He served in the U.S. Airforce 1952-1956 as a B-36 airplane mechanic achieving the rank of Staff Sargent. He attended Brown Mackie School of Business in Salina, KS and graduated with a degree in accounting in 1958.

On Feb. 15, 1958, Carl was united in marriage to Shirley Jane Becker at First Presbyterian Church in Roxbury. They lived in Roxbury before moving to McPherson in 1958. They were blessed with three children, David, Marty, and Carla.

Carl was Office Manager at Western States Gas from 1958-1966 and at Certainteed from 1966 until his retirement in 1998. He then worked part-time as a truck driver for Wear Tech and Precision Chrome. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and belonged to Methodist Men’s, American Legion, and in earlier years, was active in the Jaycees.

Carl enjoyed hunting and traveling, camping, and hiking with his wife and with family. Always together and sometimes with family, they visited 50 states, Europe, Canada, and Australia and enjoyed numerous trips to Colorado and Maine. Carl and Shirley camped their way to Alaska and cruised the Panama Canal and European rivers. They spent many wedding anniversaries at the Cottage House at Council Grove, KS, and celebrated their 50th anniversary with an eastern Caribbean family cruise. Together, they enjoyed their family, community activities, and KU Basketball.

Raised an only child, Carl had the remarkable experience of locating and meeting his birth siblings for the first time in 2016. He was lovingly welcomed with open arms by the families of nine younger siblings with one brother deceased.

Carl was welcomed to his heavenly home by the love of his life and wife of 59 years, Shirley, who preceded him in 2017. He was also preceded by brother-in-law, Ron Becker, sister-in-law, Linda Becker, and brother Joe Hon.

A loving family man, he is missed by two sons, David (Stephanie) Ade, Topeka; Marty (Lori) Ade, Concordia; one daughter, Carla (Darryl) Boesker, Gypsum; five grandchildren, Phillip (Brooke) Boesker, McPherson; Ryan (Jen) Boesker, Salina; Kent Boesker, Canton; Kaelyn (Matthew) Flores, Bellevue, NE; Janessa (Robert) Soward, Manhattan, KS; three great-grandsons, Carter and Baylor Boesker, McPherson; Brecken Boesker, Salina; sister-in-law, Verna Becker, Langley; brother-in-law, Jim (Charlotte) Becker, McPherson; six brothers, Dickie, Wayne, Lee, William, Bobby, and Andrew Hon; two sisters, Cookie Heckadon and Kathy Patrick, as well as many nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends.
