Scott Harter

Brian “Scott” Harter, 56, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away following a prolonged illness on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, surrounded by his family at Newton Medical Center.

Scott was born on April 8, 1970, in McPherson, KS, the son of Brian Winfield and Deborah Ann (Hulse) Harter. He attended McPherson High School. Scott worked on the road crew for KDOT and was a sales representative for Vivint Security System.

He lived life at full throttle prior to his medical battle. A true master of all trades, Scott was happiest when fixing up cars, working on projects, or riding his motorcycle on the open road.

Scott was social, fiercely independent, and thoroughly enjoyed a spirited debate—always holding fast to his convictions with a "his way or the highway" attitude. He loved testing his luck at casinos and on the computer, bringing sharp wit and endless energy to everything he did.

Above all, Scott loved his family deeply. He was immensely proud of his daughter, Kayla, and cherished every moment spent fishing and sharing laughs with his beloved grandchildren. His family will miss him beyond measure.

Survivors include his daughter, Kayla Harter of McPherson, KS; life partner, Michelle Gearhart of Moundridge, KS; parents, Brian and Deborah Harter of McPherson, KS; brother, Mike Harter of McPherson, KS; step-children, Ashley McDaniel (Michael) of Osage Beach, KS, Alisha Wehkamp (Lee) of Ingalls, KS, Matthew Munoz of McPherson, KS, Micah Schlicht of Osage Beach, MO, Jessica Schwaiger (Mike) of Bennington, KS, Amber Miller (Preston) of Moundridge, KS, Brandon Gearhart of Moundridge, KS, and Karmi Koehl (Melissa) of Michigan; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; eight nieces & nephews; and many extended relatives and friends.

A family gathering will be held for Scott.
