Bennie Carl Peters, 91, of Inman, KS, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Pleasant View Home, Inman. He retired after 41 years of farming in Kiowa County and also had worked at Michigan Wisconsin Pipeline Company near Greensburg, KS. He had been a resident of Inman since 2001, moving from Greensburg. Both homes that Bennie had previously lived in were destroyed by the Greensburg tornado of 2007.
He was born on October 9, 1922, in Kiowa County, KS, the son of Abraham E. and Agnes (Kornelson) Peters. He graduated from Greensburg High School and attended Tabor College.
On May 15, 1950, Bennie was united in marriage to Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Willems at the Zoar Mennonite Church in Inman, KS. They celebrated 60 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on March 21, 2011.
Bennie was a member of the Groveland Christian Church; volunteered for the Hospital Auxiliary, American Cancer Society, and the Senior Center, all of Greensburg, KS; and owned and flew his 1939 J-3 Cub airplane for 27 years.
Survivors include: sisters-in-law, Elnora Peters of Newton, KS and Ruthe Willems of McPherson, KS; a brother-in-law, Robert Willems of Inman, KS; and several generations of nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sisters, Helen Classen, Reubena Milne, and Mildred Baumann; and a brother, Arnold Peters.
Cremation has taken place and in accordance with Mr. Peters’ wishes, no service will be held at this time.
