Barbara Jean Chapman, 82, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2024, surrounded by family at Schowalter Villa, Hesston.

She was born on October 24, 1941, in Moline, IL, the daughter of Henry Lee and Minnie Marie (Scharf) Vogel. She attended McPherson High School. On November 17, 1956, Barbara was united in marriage to Arthur E. Chapman at the Trinity Lutheran Church in McPherson. This union was blessed with four children, Beverly, Tammy, D. Jeanie, and Arthur “Art”. Barbara and Art were married for 57 years prior to Art’s passing on January 3, 2014.

Barbara was a member of New Gottland Lutheran Church and V.F.W. #2715 Auxiliary. She was a long-time former member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Barbara is survived by four children, Beverly D. (Wayne) Regehr of Inman, KS, Tammy S. (Brooke) Michael of McPherson, KS, D. Jeanie (James) Seely of McPherson, KS, and Arthur “Art” E. Chapman, II of McPherson, KS; daughter-in-law, Lisa Chapman of McPherson, KS; nine grandchildren, Angela (Brad) Goebel of McPherson, KS, Matthew (Mindy) Nuce of Newton, KS, Mackenzie (Ryan) Brathwaite of Smyrna, GA, Madison (Brandon) Ritcha of Kingman, KS, Jacob Seely of Kansas City, KS, Delaney (Bryce) Joonas of Fredericksburg, VA, Izaac Chapman of McPherson, KS, Celeste Chapman of McPherson, KS, and Tucker Chapman of McPherson, KS; 12 great-grandchildren, Gavin, Logan, & McKayla Roth of McPherson, KS, Brooklyn Trask of McPherson, KS, Avery Nuce of Hesston, KS, Cameron & Caiden Whitney of Smyrna, GA, Waylon & Reagan Ritcha of Kingman, KS, Ivory & Gannon Chapman of McPherson, KS, and Mason Joonas of Fredericksburg, VA; and many extended relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers, Kenneth Vogel and Robert “Bob” Lee Vogel.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 PM, Thursday, October 24, 2024, at McPherson Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Schowalter Villa, Memory Care Unit in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.
