Allen Walter Jahn, 88, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Monday, May 4, 2026, surrounded by family at Hospice House, Hutchinson.
He was born on July 4, 1937, in Newton, KS, the son of Arthur Albert and Dora Sophia (Otte) Jahn. He attended Immanuel Lutheran Parochial School through the 8th grade and graduated from Canton High School in 1955. On May 24, 1957, Allen was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Jantz at the Emmanuel Mennonite Church near Galva, KS.
Allen worked as an installer for Modern Insulating, worked in the maintenance department at Sterling Drug, and retired as a forklift operator at Sanofi-Winthrop.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in McPherson.
Allen was an avid bird watcher and recorded over 600 species on his life list. Detail-oriented and meticulous in his pursuits, he traveled to 49 states and most of the Canadian provinces in search of new birds. Each year, he shared his passion by hosting an informational bird exhibit at Maxwell Rendezvous Days. Allen always kept a maintained yard and created thoughtful light displays to celebrate each holiday.
Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 69 years, Barbara of the home; siblings, Eugene Jahn (Charlotte) of Norman, OK, Violet Knox of Spencer, IN, and Wayne Jahn of Wichita, KS; daughter-in-law, Nadeen Jahn of Tucson, AZ; two grandsons, Grant Jahn and Tyler Jahn; two great-grandchildren; and many extended relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Jeffry Jahn.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM, Sunday, May 10, 2026, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, May 11, at Grace Lutheran Church, McPherson, with Rev. Dale Dumperth officiating. Burial will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Canton.
