Wanda L. Byrns

Wanda Lou Byrns, 80, of Canton, KS and formerly of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 20, 2019, surrounded by family at Newton Medical Center, Newton, KS. She was a retired filing clerk for Farmers Alliance Insurance Company.

Wanda was born on January 11, 1939, in Tampa, KS, the daughter of Frank Lee and Waunieta Esther (Medley) Haynes. She graduated from Chapman High School in 1957. Wanda was united in marriage to Duane D. Hamm on March 22, 1959, in Durham, KS. She married Ervin Hein on October 5, 1979, in Durham, KS. He preceded her in death on September 29, 1990. She later married Don D. Byrns on May 5, 2007, in McPherson, KS.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, McPherson.

Survivors include: her husband, Don of the home; three children, Charlene (Greg) Thiessen of McPherson, KS, Myron Hamm of Tulsa, OK, and Cherie (Tim) Goossen of Hillsboro, KS; six grandchildren, Austin Hamm, Ty (Michelle) Goossen, Justin Hamm, Dylan Thiessen, Whitney Thiessen, and Madison Hamm; five sisters, Lavella Chrisman of Shreveport, LA, Donna Longnecker of Chapman, KS, Yvonne Sexton of Boynton Beach, FL, Jean Riffel of Rose Hill, KS, and Connie (Ken) Williamson of Mead, CO; and many other extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, Frank and Waunieta Haynes; second husband, Ervin Hein; and siblings, Vergil Haynes, Maxine Mueller, Doris Williamson, and Modene Karl.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 10:30 AM, Thursday, May 23, at the First Baptist Church, McPherson with Pastor John Pattison officiating. Burial will follow at Canton Township Cemetery.
