Walker A. Davis

Walker A. Davis, age 72, of Inman, Kansas, passed away peacefully January 19, 2020, at Pleasant View Home in Inman. After years of battling Parkinson’s disease against his body and mind, he has beat it by transcending to a higher plane where he can finally be at peace.

Walker was a loving son, brother, uncle, father, husband, mentor, veteran, and friend. Walker was born June 25, 1947, to Helen and Walker Davis. He enjoyed time spent with his family and meeting new friends. He is preceded by his father, Walker Davis, Sr., mother, Helen Ragusi, step-father, Arthur Ragusi, and brother, Ronald Davis.

Walker received a degree in Cultural Anthropology. He learned to read and speak Thai and Spanish, and enjoyed meeting people from different backgrounds and learning about their cultures. He dedicated 20 years to the Air Force working in Security Police. While in the service, he spent time in Vietnam, Thailand, and was a Vietnam War veteran. He had many other rewarding and formative jobs and careers throughout his lifetime; beginning at age nine shining shoes, clerking at a grocery store , working with developmentally delayed children and adults, and training his loyal German Shepherd, Shaffer, while assigned as an Air Force security dog handler. He later retired at the rank of Master Sergeant, and also retired from the U.S. Postal Service.

An avid lifetime learner, and one to never shy away from something new, Walker enjoyed challenges and new opportunities. Walker earned a Black Belt in Karate, enjoyed reading, running marathons, swimming, scuba diving, salsa dancing, listening to music, staying informed about current events, and playing chess. Walker liked playing his guitar and keyboard. Walker was an animal lover and owned a few cats, several dogs, and birds.

Walker is survived by his older brother Glenn; his younger sister Deborah; two daughters, Sohntaya and Nicholle; three sons, Nakarin, Walker, and Austin; as well as adoring daughters-in-law, a son-in-law, grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Now Walker is at peace, and we hold him close within us. Our lives are that much richer for knowing and loving him.

Interment with Air Force Honors will be held at Calverton National Cemetery in Wading River, New York on March 6, 2020,at 10:00 AM.
