Sandra Kay “Sandy” Russell, 61, of McPherson, passed away on Friday, June 3, 2011, at Memorial Hospital, McPherson. She was retired from the McPherson office of Social and Rehabilitation Services where she worked as a social worker supervisor. She had been a McPherson resident since 1978, formerly of Cimarron, KS.

She was born on May 27, 1950, in Ellsworth, KS, the daughter of John J. and Bernice M. (Gier) Simpson. She graduated from Garden City High School in 1968, Garden City Community College, and Fort Hays State University. She was united in marriage to Ralph Harvey Russell on July 21, 1979, at Haven, KS.

The memorial service will be at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. A private inurnment will take place at Larned Cemetery.

Survivors include: husband, Harvey of the home; step-children, Scott Russell (Patricia) of Brownfield, TX, Vicki Churchman (Daniel) of Leesburg, GA, and Lisa Knoll (Scott) of Holcomb, KS; mother, Bernice Haas of Garden City, KS; brothers, Terry Simpson (Norma Jean) of Hutchinson, KS and Noel Simpson (Norma Jean) of Garden City, KS; five grandchildren, Lauren C. Russell, Russell C. Rhea, Branee M. Knoll, Ethan S. Knoll, and Remmi R. Knoll; and several nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, John J. Simpson, and step-father, Elmer Haas.
