Mary Louise Crum

Mary Louise “Maylou” Crum was born March 10, 1927, in Liberty Missouri. She was the youngest of four children born to Harry and Ella Louise Downing. Shortly after her birth, Ella Louise died of a cerebral hemorrhage. Maylou grew up splitting time on the family farm and in Liberty with her grandparents.

She graduated from Liberty High School and then from William Jewell College with a degree in psychology. Maylou was married to Marvin L. Crum on November 11, 1951. They had 59 happy years together, and they had two children, Joe and Carol.

The family moved to Newton, KS in 1963, and then to McPherson, KS in 1975. After Marvin’s passing in 2010, Maylou moved to Lincoln, NE to be near her daughter, Carol.

Maylou was the consummate homemaker. She was well known for her warm home and delicious food. She made most of Carol’s clothes as well as things to decorate their home. Always involved, she was at every game, recital, and school event.

Maylou was also active in every church they attended. She served the Lord in the kitchen and on many different committees over the years.

Beside her family, she enjoyed the many dogs they owned. They always brought her great comfort and joy.

Maylou went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 28, 2018, at the Martha House in Lincoln, NE. She was ninety-one.

Survivors include her son, Joe Crum of Smyrna, GA; daughter, Carol Crum of Lincoln, NE; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, August 2, 2018, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until service time. In accordance with the Maylou’s wishes, her body was donated to the Anatomical Board of the State of Nebraska.
