Lois Richards

Lois Richards, 94, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 3, 2021, at the Presbyterian Manor in Newton, KS.

Lois was born on August 15, 1927, in a cabin on her father’s homestead in Gavilan, New Mexico. She loved the farm life and one of her favorite pastimes was hunting for arrowheads and Indian artifacts. She was one of 14 children born to her parents, ten girls and four boys.

She met Jonathan Edwards Allmon who lived with his family in the area, and they married in 1947. They had six children, five boys and one girl. Lois and Johnnie relocated to Lovington, New Mexico and eventually to McPherson, Kansas in 1955. Lois was a wonderful homemaker and mother. She worked as a nurse aide and a school bus driver.

Later in life, she married Elmer Richards, and they spent 48 years together. Lois made wedding cakes and enjoyed bowling and camping. She liked to paint pictures and played musical instruments. She and Elmer enjoyed traveling and loved working on puzzles and games. She loved her dogs, BoBo, Missy, and Benjiboy.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer; infant son, Paul Allmon; son, Delbert Allmon; step-son, Arlen Richards; granddaughter, Charlotte Allmon; grandson, Mark Richards; daughter-in-law, Young Richards; and nine siblings.

Survivors include: four children, Dave (Jean) Allmon of Abilene, Kansas, Dean (Rita) Allmon of Newton, Kansas, Deanna Allmon of Newton, Kansas, and Dennis Allmon of Albuquerque, New Mexico; step-son, Vance Richards of Boulder City, Nevada; four siblings, Oliver (Danella) Davis of Star, Idaho, Irene Ozanich of West Jordan, Utah, Gladys Yancey of San Pablo, California, and Donald (Sharon) Davis of Aztec, New Mexico; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, December 9, 2021, at Stockham Family Funeral Home, McPherson. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, December 10, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with Chaplain John Hull officiating. Burial will follow at Marquette Cemetery, Marquette, Kansas.
