Jerry Griffis, McPherson, KS, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2021, at Angel Arms, McPherson.

Jerry was born in Osborne, KS, May 10, 1933, to Arthur Glen and Dorothy Griffis.

Jerry attended McPherson grade schools, graduated from McPherson High School, and attended Kansas State. After graduating from high school, Jerry joined the United States Navy.

Jerry was united in marriage to Joan Schletzbaum September 6, 1959, at Monitor Church of the Brethren, Conway, Kansas with Rev. Flory officiating. They were blessed with two daughters, Tracy and Cindy.

Jerry worked for the City of McPherson as assistant Director of Public Works for 22 years before retiring May 1996. His friendly, outgoing personality permitted him to work well with fellow employees and to meet the public with ease and confidence. He was also a licensed surveyor.

Jerry was a member of the Monitor Church of the Brethren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Joan Griffis of McPherson, Kansas; his daughter, Cindy Schrad of Denver, Colorado; son-in-law, Gary Long of Kansas City, Kansas; three grandchildren, Kelsy Allison and husband, Jake, Haley Rushing and husband, Bruce, and Riley Long and fiancé, Phung; and four great-grandchildren, all of Kansas City.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Dorothy Griffis; daughter, Tracy Long; grandson, Connor Long; son-in-law, Doug Schrad; brother, Bill Griffis; one year old brother, Donnie Griffis; half-brothers, Frank and Wayne Griffis and Gerald Meeker; and half-sister, Helen Bachtel.

A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
