Fredrick Eugene “Freddie” Axelson, 88, passed away Monday, November 23, 2015, at Brookdale McPherson. He had been a McPherson resident since 1953, moving from Lindsborg.

Freddie worked as a salesman for Tucker’s Firestone Tire store and Wallace car dealership. After retirement Freddie’s love of car’s continued until 2012 as owner/operator of Freddie’s Car Care.

He was born in Marquette, Kansas on February 4, 1927, the son of Carl G. and Edna E. (Andrews) Axelson.

Freddie enlisted in the Navy during high school and served during World War II, taking part in the invasions of Iwo Jima and Okinawa.

On September 27, 1953, he married Dolores M. “Dee” Newacheck in Russell, Kansas. She preceded him in death on January 7, 2012.

Survivors include: a son, Jeffrey Axelson (Pam) of McPherson; two daughters, Linda Krehbiel of McPherson and Julianne Osborn (Scott) of Houston, TX, eight grandchildren, Melanie Krehbiel, Leslie Auman (David), Andrew Krehbiel (Amber), Marissa Axelson, Miranda Axelson, Ryan Osborn, Brent Osborn, and Jennifer Osborn; three great-grandchildren; and an aunt, Blanche Spilman (Harold Montgomery) of Lindsborg, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Carl E. Axelson, and a sister, Ramona “Mona” Hujing.

The memorial service will be at 10:30 AM, Saturday, November 28, at Grace Lutheran Church. Inurnment with military honors will take place at McPherson Mausoleum following the memorial service. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday, November 27, at Stockham Family Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
