Ethel Peterson

Ethel Emma Karolina Peterson, daughter of David and Emma Gustafson Johnson, was born August 28, 1915, in Roxbury, Kansas. She was the only daughter and had five brothers.

She graduated from Roxbury High School in 1934, and taught school for two years at Olive Springs School near Roxbury.

On December 4, 1938, Ethel was united in marriage to Ernest Peterson. They enjoyed 68 years of marriage. She was a homemaker and particularly enjoyed baking. She was known as "the cookie lady" and liked to share her cookies with family and friends. She enjoyed sending and receiving cards and loved the color red, particularly red roses and red birds. She was very proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and bragged about them whenever she found someone who would listen.

She was a member of New Gottland Lutheran Church and the Tabitha Circle.

Ethel passed away on December 9, 2006 at Cedars. She was ninety-one

Surviving members of her family include: her husband Ernest; sons Dwayne R. Peterson and his wife, Georgianna, of McPherson and Ronald D. Peterson and his wife, Bonnie, of Gibsonville, NC; four grandchildren, Rhonda Dealey and her husband, Rev. Bob, of Lockport, IL, Paula Brown and her husband, Tom, of Hillsborough, NC, Melinda Cochran and her husband, Michael, of Yukon, OK, and Brian Peterson and his wife, Heather, of Keller, TX; seven great-grandchildren, Robbie Dealey, Theodore Brown, Cole, Bryton, and Anna Cochran, and Grace and Andrew Peterson; and three step-great-grandchildren, Karin Dealey, Kristin Lowe and her husband, Michael, and Katie Dealey; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Lambert, Lonnie, Carl, Eben, and Elvis Johnson.

The memorial service will be at 2:00 PM, Thursday, December 14, at New Gottland Lutheran Church. Burial will precede the memorial service at 1:00 PM in New Gottland Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at Stockham Family Funeral Home. The family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
