Dorothy M. Laird, 82, of McPherson, passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at McPherson Hospital. She had worked at King's Drug Store, was a bookkeeper for Firestone, prepared tax returns for Leitz Accounting, sold real estate for Sheets & Adams Realty, owned & managed Beau Mart Beauty Shop, was a partner at Town & Country Realty, and sold real estate for Sunbird Realty, retiring in 1991.

Dorothy was born on December 6, 1929, in Hillsboro, KS, the daughter of Peter and Eva (Goertz) Schmidt. She graduated from McPherson High School in 1948.

She was united in marriage to G. Norwood King on October 16, 1949. He died September 15, 1963. She married Harold Brunk on November 12, 1965. He died August 17, 1971. On September 29, 1973, she married Robert E. "Bob" Laird in McPherson, KS.

She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, where she has served on the cabinet for several years and served four terms as moderator of the church. She also was a member of the Kansas Board of Realtors and the McPherson Board of Realtors.

Survivors include: husband, Bob of the home; son, David King (Debra Heidgen) of Leavenworth, KS; daughter, Susan Doud (David) of Denver, CO; three step-daughters, Josie Blaser (Randy) of Denver, CO, Ruthie Baird (Biff) of Gateway, CO, and Connie Foster of Independence, MO; four grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, G. Norwood King and Harold Brunk, two brothers, Lloyd and Harvey Schmidt, and one sister, Esther Plenert.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, September 8, 2012, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ with Rev. Constance Lunn officiating. Inurnment will be in the McPherson Cemetery.
