Darrell Wayne Martin

Darrell Wayne Martin, 71, of Marquette, KS and formerly of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 1, 2018, at Robert J. Dole Medical Center, Wichita. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and Army during the Vietnam War. He was a plumber, worked for the street department, and was a police officer for the City of McPherson.

Darrell was born on March 16, 1947, in Lexington, KY, the son of Johnny and Laura Maureen (Lanham) Martin. He married Carolyn J. (Holler) Alstatt on June 15, 1973, in McPherson, KS. She preceded him in death on August 21, 2008.

Darrell was a member of the Marquette American Legion and McPherson V.F.W. Post #2715.

Survivors include: his companion, Karen Teague of Marquette, KS; six children, Michael Alstatt (Janis) of Hutchinson, KS, Kathy Alstatt (Penny) of Seattle, WA, Christopher Alstatt (Lori) of Marquette, KS, Robert Martin (Kelli) of Lexington, KY, Lisa Martin White (David) of Lexington, KY, and Jennifer Martin Cokeley (James) of Lindsborg, KS; sister, Ovann Evans of Lawrenceburg, KY; brother, Irvin “Lee” Martin (Joanne) of Berea, KY; half-sister, Carolyn Sue Martin of Kentucky; ten grandchildren, Cody Alstatt, Chendra Mitchell, Tim Alstatt, Kristina Scoskie, Caitlin Arbuckle, Tyler White, Dakota Alstatt, Noell Alstatt, Breanna Alstatt, and Christopher Martin; and three-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Carolyn, brother, William “Bill” T. Martin, and sister, Phyllis Joyce Martin.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be at 10:30 AM, Thursday, September 6, at Marquette United Methodist Church with Pastor Jeff Graber officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Excelsior Cemetery, Marquette.
