Betty Loucille (Winter) Brewer, daughter of Fred J. and Ellen Carrie (Kasper) Winter, was born October 27, 1935, on the family farm in Lehigh, Kansas. She was one of seven children born to the Winter family and left school after proudly graduating from 8th grade in 1951.

Betty was encouraged through her faith everyday as a baptized child of God on May 2, 1943, and confirmed June 4, 1950, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lehigh, Kansas.

Then off to work Betty went at the age of 15 until she retired at 79. Some of the many hats she wore were: Counter Girl at Duckwall’s, Live-In Nanny, Factory Worker (Hehr Midwest, Rolldex Windows, Kit, Certain-Teed & Hesston Corp.), Betty’s Day Care, cleaning for the YMCA, the Courthouse and many McPherson households; along with her crossing guard position at Elm & First for 31 years.

On Sunday, April 29, 1956, she was united marriage to Keith L. Brewer at the Mennonite Church in Lehigh, KS at 7:30 PM. During their early marriage years, Keith served in the Army for two years in Germany. Once back in the states, they traveled with Samson’s Construction out of Alexander, KS as Keith worked building grain elevators. They moved around from Florence to Newton when Keith ran mail routes, before finally settling in McPherson, KS in 1961 after Pamala was born in their little camper. They lived in the camper in the trailer park until purchasing the family home built by Betty’s Grandpa Kasper in 1964. This union was additionally blessed with David (1965), Christopher (1967) and Matthew (1968).

Betty entered peacefully into eternal rest on Friday, September 4, 2020, at Pine Village in Moundridge, KS. She was eighty-four.

Survivors include: one daughter, Pam Axelson and husband, Jeff, of McPherson, KS; three sons, David Brewer and wife, Lisa, of Galva, KS, Chris Brewer and wife, Karen, of Surprise, AZ ,and Matthew Brewer of Topeka, KS; two brothers-in-law, Elmer Gooding of Tempe, AZ and Larry “Chip” Tector of Galva, KS; a sister-in-law, Mary Winter of McPherson, KS; eight grandchildren, Marissa, Miranda, Brooke, Nataleah, Nicole, Ashton, Courtney & Logan, three great-grandchildren, Aaliyah, Levi & Myleigh; and several nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five sisters, Virginia Schulz, Lois Lake, Wilma Schroeder, Joyce Gooding and Mary Tector, a brother, Glenn Winter, and nieces, Deb Williams and Julie Lake.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, September 12, 2020, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with Chaplain Ginger Seeber officiating. Burial will follow at Lehigh Mennonite Cemetery.
