Betty Jean Anderson, 86, of McPherson, KS, passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2018, surrounded by her family. She was a lifetime resident of McPherson County.

Betty was a wife, mother, and partner with her husband in operating Anderson Food Store in Moundridge for 19 years. After closing the store in 1985, she worked at Raleigh’s Drug Store. She retired at the age of 62 years, but she missed her job and returned to Raleigh’s where she worked for 11 more years, retiring at age 73.

Betty was passionate about her family and her faith. Many prayers were said and meals prepared as an expression of her love for her family.

Betty was born May 12, 1932, in Galva, KS, the daughter of Jesse and Hulda (Decker) Schmidt. She was the third child of seven children. On July 4, 1953, Betty was united in marriage to Robert “Dennis” Anderson in Galva, KS. They enjoyed 58 wonderful years of marriage. Dennis preceded her in death on July 12, 2011.

Survivors include: four children, Brenda Gawith and husband, Jeff, of Minneapolis, KS, Lynda Nisly and husband, Mark, of Hutchinson, KS, Brad Anderson of McPherson, KS, and Bryan Anderson and wife, Tina, of McPherson, KS; brother, Dennis Schmidt of Nebraska; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and five siblings. Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday, November 19, 2018, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, November 20, at Countryside Covenant Church with Rev. Jon Black officiating. Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery.
