William McCartney

William E. "Bill" McCartney, 86, of El Dorado, Kansas passed away Thursday, September 21, 2006, at his home. He was born June 30, 1920, the son of Leo B. and Irene Catherine (Albright) McCartney at Galena, Kansas. Bill graduated from the School of Pharmacy at the University of Missouri, Kansas City. During World War II and the Korean Conflict, he served from 1942 to 1957 as a Captain in the United States Army, both in the Active Army and as a Reserve.

Bill came to El Dorado in 1968, living previously in Eureka and Marion. He was a practicing Pharmacist and worked for two years at Graves Drug Store when he came to El Dorado. In 1970, he opened McCartney Drug Store which he operated until he sold the store. He was semi-retired working a few days a week. He attended the First United Methodist Church, was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W., and the Korean Veterans Association.

On February 29, 1984, he married Catherine Wade in El Dorado.

Those he leaves include: his beloved wife, Cathy of the home, daughter, Dr. Marsha Ann Swartz, Las Cruces, New Mexico, two granddaughters, one great-grandson, three great-granddaughters, a step-daughter, Sandra Emlet of Augusta, a sister-in-law, Vicky Clark of Wichita, and niece and nephew, Glenn and Chris Clark.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Rosemary.

Funeral service will 10:30 AM Monday, September 25, at Carlson Fuenral Home, El Dorado. Graveside service will take place at 4:00 PM on Monday afternoon with Stockham Family Funeral Home, McPherson.
