Warren Underwood

Warren D. Underwood, 74, of McPherson, died Sunday, August 5, 2007, at the Hutchinson Hospital, Hutchinson, KS. He was born August 22, 1932, at Bird City, Kansas, the son of Irvin E. and Dorothy G. (McTaggart) Underwood. He graduated from Bird City High School in 1950 and attended two years at University of Kansas. He was a McPherson resident since 1958, formerly of Dallas, Texas. On October 29, 1960, Warren was united in marriage to Janice E. "Jan" Payeur at Clyde, Kansas. Warren was the former owner & President of Alliance Agency, Inc., retiring in 1998.

Warren was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge #172, Isis Shrine, McPherson Shrine Club, Royal Order of Jesters (Court #94), Sons of the American Legion Squadron #24, International Order of Odd Fellows, and Independent Insurance Agents of KS, served on the Board of Trustees of the First United Methodist Church, and served on the board of directors of McPherson Bank & Trust. He was the Past President of several organizations, including the Rotary Club, Sunflower Chapter of the American Red Cross, McPherson Chamber of Commerce, McPherson Industrial Development Co., and the Kansas Mutual Insurance Agents.

The memorial service will be at 11:00 AM, Thursday, August 9, 2007, at the First United Methodist Church. A private family inurnment will take place at the McPherson Cemetery prior to the memorial service. There will be no visitation.

Warren is survived by: his wife, Jan of the home; sons, Brad Underwood of Manhattan, KS and T.J. Underwood of McPherson, KS; daughter, Shari Potts of Pensacola, FL; brother, Wallace Underwood of Bird City, KS; sister, Shirley Smith of Hays, KS; and four grandchildren.
