Virginia Hedquist

Virginia Mae (Anderson) Stromberg-Hedquist, 84, of McPherson and formerly of Independence, KS, passed away on Monday, October 29, 2012, at her home in McPherson. She was retired from Southwestern Bell, where she was a telephone operator and secretary.

She was born on March 6, 1928, in McPherson, KS, the daughter of Maurice Theodore and Esther Irene (Peterson) Anderson. She attended Lincoln Grade School and graduated from McPherson High School in 1946.

Virginia was united in marriage to Ralph Lester Stromberg on April 6, 1947, in McPherson. He died September 28, 1969. She later married Thomas Gordon Hedquist in 1972 in McPherson. He died March 10, 2001.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and P.E.O. Chapter AY, serving as past president.

Survivors include: three children, Gary Stromberg and wife, Marsha, of Derby, KS, Cheryl Barrow of McPherson, KS, and Darryl Stromberg and wife, Pam, of Gilbert, SC; sister, Marjorie Church of Tujunga, CA; step-sisters, Ione Toll of Lindsborg, KS, Verna Jean Jennings of Gig Harbor, WA, and Lenore Miller of Tucson, AZ; seven grandchildren, Kimberly Williams and husband, Ryan, of Andover, KS, Jennifer Stromberg of San Diego, CA, Kelly Stromberg of San Diego, CA, Bill Barrow and wife, Dixie, of McPherson, KS, Kristina Littlejohn of McPherson, KS, Jason Hollen and wife, Jennifer, of Fayetteville, GA, and Ashley Hollen of Gilbert, SC; and four great-grandchildren, Emri Williams of Andover, KS, Brynn Littlejohn of McPherson, KS, Andrew Hollen of Fayetteville, GA, and Joshua Hollen of Fayetteville, GA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Maurice Anderson and Esther Anderson-Lindholm, step-father, Vern Lindholm, husbands, Ralph Stromberg and Thomas Hedquist, sister, Lucile Frazier, brother, Harold Anderson, and step-brother, Clement Lindholm.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 3, 2012, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Tim Leaf officiating. A private graveside service will precede the memorial service at McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday, November 2, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
