Roger Pounds

Roger W. Pounds, 102, of McPherson, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, at Memorial Hospital, McPherson. Roger was born on Jan. 11, 1907, in Smith County, KS, the son of Lee H. and Estella (Lawson) Pounds. On Aug. 12, 1931, he was united in marriage to Pearl L. Crown at Beloit, KS. She died Feb. 17, 1985. On May 3, 1986, he was united in marriage to Dorothy M. Henkle in McPherson, KS. Roger worked at Sid Bacon Motor Co. as an accountant. Prior to that, he farmed in Smith County, Kansas. Retiring in 1978, he was an accountant at Central Christian College.

Roger was a member of the Free Methodist Church, Gideons International, McPherson Area Retired School Personnel, Kansas Retired Teachers Assn., and National Retired Teachers Assn.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 AM, Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at the Free Methodist Church with Rev. Deborah Somerville and Rev. Tom Griffith officiating. Burial will be in the McPherson Cemetery. Visitation is from 3:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.

Survivors include: wife, Dorothy of the home; daughters, Erma C. Dunham and husband, Calvin, of Russellville, AR and Elma M. Habecker and husband, Earl, of Spring Arbor, MI; eight grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Roger Pounds.
