Robert Nelson

Robert R. Nelson, 82, of McPherson, passed away on Thursday, August 5, 2010, at The Cedars, McPherson. He was a retired teacher, administrator, and principal at public schools in Clement, KS, Emporia, KS, Goddard, KS, and Bonner Springs, KS. He served as a Corpsman in the United States Navy from 1946 to 1948.

Robert was born on January 18, 1928, in Emporia, Kansas. He received his Master's Degree from Emporia State Teachers College.

Robert was a member of the McPherson Free Methodist Church, served as General Conference Delegate of the Free Methodist Church, Past President of the Bonner Springs Lions Club, and served on the board of directors for Life Lines, Inc.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, August 10, 2010, at the McPherson Free Methodist Church with Rev. Deborah Somerville, Rev. Tom Griffith, and Rev. Gary Holdeman officiating. Burial will be in the McPherson Cemetery. Visitation is from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

Survivors include: his wife, Cleora of the home; sons, Philip Nelson (Carolyn) of McPherson, KS, David Nelson (Marsha) of Bonner Springs, KS, and James Nelson (Julie) of Salina, KS; 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three foster-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Grace Nelson, and a sister, Gladys Nelson.
