Norman Nelson

Norman F. Nelson, 98, of McPherson, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011, at The Cedars, McPherson. He was a retired pipeline welder, working for Mobil Oil Company. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, serving in the 13th Armored Division and fighting in the Battle of the Bulge and other campaigns in European theatres.

Norman was born December 12, 1912, in Groveland, KS, the son of Nels H. and Laura S. (Paulson) Nelson. He attended the McPherson schools. On August 31, 1940, he was united in marriage to Edith L. Hughey in McPherson, KS. She preceded him in death on Sept. 7, 1992.

Norman was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Masonic Lodge #172, Scottish Rite, Isis Shrine (Salina), and McPherson Shrine Club, and a Life Member of McPherson V.F.W. Post #2715.

He is survived by: his son, Ed Nelson (Amy) of Spring, TX; grandson, Nicholas Nelson (Janeen) of Houston, TX; granddaughter, Lila Macorol of San Antonio, TX; great-grandchildren, Bradley, Layla, Jozlyn, and Zoë Nelson; nieces & nephews, Leah Russell of Lindsborg, KS, Marvin & Carol Rasmussen of Walnut Creek, CA, and Marion & Dorothy Rasmussen of Stockton, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister, Vivian Lueckfeld, and a dear friend, Georgana Crabb.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, Nov. 30, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ with Rev. Constance Lunn officiating. There is no visitation but the casket will be open prior to the service. Burial with Military Honors will be at the McPherson Cemetery.
