Marion J. Wood, 82, of Inman and formerly of McPherson, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 12, 2014, at Pleasant View Home, Inman. He had worked for National Cooperative Refinery Association for 35 years, retiring in 1994 as a machinist.

Marion served in the United States Navy for four years in Europe.

He was born on September 9, 1932, in Osborne County, KS, the son of Marion Sylvester and Ethel Mae (Sherbondy) Wood. He graduated in 1950 from Glen Elder High School. He then attended Central College, McPherson. On November 23, 1957, he was united in marriage to Joanne Elizabeth Askew in Portsmouth, Virginia.

Marion was a member of the McPherson Free Methodist Church and Oil, Chemical & Atomic Workers Union.

Survivors include: wife, Joanne of the home; two children, Karen Graham of Pakenham, Ontario and James Wood of Chanute, KS; two sisters, Joanne Bowles (Pete) of Florence, AL and Lois Roach of Newton, KS; five grandchildren, Ed Graham, Eric Graham, Christina Graham, Vada Wood, and Shane Wood; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty James.

The memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, November 17, 2014, at the McPherson Free Methodist Church with Rev. Tom Griffith, Rev. Deborah Somerville, and Rev. Tom Mayse officiating. Military Honors will be conducted at the church. Inurnment will follow at the McPherson Cemetery.
