Laura V. Ollek

Laura (Haas) Ollek departed this life on October 25, 2017, at Addington Place Assisted Living in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. She and her twin sister were born November 28, 1918, Thanksgiving Day, on the family farm outside Lehigh, Kansas, to parents Henry H. and Katie (Steinert) Haas. She attended Lehigh public schools. She married Adolph Ollek, literally the boy across the road, on October 4, 1936, and they had one daughter.

As part of The Greatest Generation, their life was greatly marked and influenced by Adolph’s years in the Army during World War II. During her working years, she helped run the Lehigh café and managed the school lunch program there. After moving to McPherson, she worked for Green’s Appliance and for Farmers Alliance Insurance for many years. After retirement, she joined the McPherson Hospital Auxiliary where she clocked over 3000 hours of service. She was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church for 50 years.

We who loved her can say hers truly was “a life well lived.” In August 2015, she moved to Lee’s Summit, MO, to be closer to her family.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, and four sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Lois and husband, Glenn, Lorei of Lee’s Summit; grandson, Jason and wife, Crystal, Lorei of Lee’s Summit; grandson, Ryan and wife, Ashley, Lorei of Leawood, KS; great-grandsons, Jacob, August, and Reece Lorei and great-granddaughter, Quinn Lorei.

A visitation will be held at 10:00 AM followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 3, 2017, at Grace Lutheran Church in McPherson with Rev. Dale Dumperth officiating. Interment will follow at the Lehigh Township Cemetery.
