Juanita Schmitt

Juanita V. Schmitt, 94, of McPherson, passed away on Monday, February 9, 2009, at McPherson Care Center. Juanita was born on January 8, 1915, in Marquette, the daughter of Julius Ferdinand and Ollie Eugenia (Carlson) Burnison. She graduated from Marquette High School in 1933 and from Trinity Hospital School of Nursing (Kansas City, MO) in 1938. She was a retired nurse. Of the 50 years in the nursing field, 35 of those years were spent working as a nurse at Memorial Hospital in McPherson.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, 67 year member of Oriental Chapter 58 - Order of the Eastern Star, McPherson County Food Bank volunteer (27 years), and Isis Shrine Greeters.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 AM, Friday, February 13, 2009, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Thomas Hallstrom officiating. Burial will be in the McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 PM, Thursday, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.

On June 17, 1939, Juanita was united in marriage to Claire M. Schmitt in Kansas City, MO. He survives. Other survivors include: daughter, Marna Wiens and husband, Larry, of McPherson; son-in-law, David Ross of McPherson; sister, Peggy Spillman of McPherson; grandchildren; Dr. Troy Wiens and wife, Chris, of McPherson, Jana Mathis and Mara Mathis, both of Kansas City, MO; and great-granddaughter, Claire Wiens of McPherson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Julius Ferdinand & Ollie Eugenia (Carlson) Burnison, and brothers, Vincent, Jule, and Blake and a daughter, Jan Ross.
