Jan Ross

Jan K. (Schmitt) Ross, 67, of McPherson and formerly of Hermitage, MO and Kansas City, MO, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was a retired nurse, most recently working at the North Kansas City Hospital. She spent a total of 36 years in the nursing profession.

Jan was born on November 1, 1941, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Claire M. and Juanita V. (Burnison) Schmitt. She graduated from McPherson High School in 1959. In 1962, she graduated from Trinity Lutheran School of Nursing. In 1968, she was united in marriage to William R. Mathis in McPherson. She later married David L. Ross on June 11, 1983, in Kansas City, MO.

Jan was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, former Rainbow Girl, member of St. James Lutheran Church in Kansas City, and was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church.

The funeral service will be on Saturday, December 13, 2008, at 11:00 AM, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. Burial will be in the McPherson Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Survivors include: her husband, David of the home; daughters, Jana Mathis and Mara Mathis, both of Kansas City, MO; a step-son, Bryan Ross, of Lincoln, MO; parents, Claire & Juanita Schmitt of McPherson; sister, Marna Wiens and husband, Larry, of McPherson; nephew, Dr. Troy Wiens and wife, Chris, of McPherson; great-niece, Claire Wiens of McPherson, KS; and aunt, Peggy Spillman of McPherson.
