Harvey Schmidt

Harvey H. Schmidt, 92, of McPherson, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at McPherson Care Center. He was a finish carpenter and had worked for Pyle Construction Co. for 30 years, prior to retirement.

He was born June 18, 1920, in Turpin, Oklahoma, the son of Daniel M. and Lizzie (Wiens) Schmidt. The family later moved to Inman, Kansas and while living there, Harvey was drafted into the military. He served four years in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater of Operations. Upon discharge, he became a resident of McPherson and later married Mary Lou Stratton in Abilene, Kansas. Harvey was a lifetime member of the First Church of God, Hutchinson, Kansas.

Survivors include: his wife, Mary Lou of the home; a daughter, Linda Kenney (Michael) of Wichita, KS; two sons, Terry Schmidt (Debra) of Red Oak, IA and Lawrence, KS and Tim Schmidt (Roxanne) of McPherson, KS; a sister, Ethel "Darlene" English of Orange, CA; eleven grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Clarence Smith, LaVern Schmidt, Adolph Schmidt, and Ronald Schmidt; and two sisters, Leona Bartel and Edna Trotter.

The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM, Monday, May 27, 2013, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will take place in McPherson Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 PM Sunday, May 26, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.
