Harvey S. Loy, 86, of McPherson, passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at The Cedars, McPherson. He was born on July 1, 1921, in Beverly, Kansas, the son of Leonard and Vera (Painter) Loy. He went to elementary and high school in Beverly, Kansas and also received degrees from Bethany College, Emporia State University, and Fort Hays State University. On August 24, 1947, he was united in marriage to Esther Bentz at St. John's Lutheran Church in Tampa, Kanas. She preceded him in death on February 4, 2008. He was a high school teacher, athletic coach, and principal for 33 years, retiring in 1983. He enlisted in the the U.S. Marines in 1942, served four years of active duty, 32 months of those in the Pacific during WWII with the First Marine Division. Before moving to McPherson in 1994, he was formerly of Salina, Beloit, Moundridge, Burns, and Galva.

He was a member of the Moundridge United Methodist Church, and had life memberships in the First Marine Division Association, Veteran of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion.

The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 31, 2008, at the Moundridge United Methodist Church, Moundridge, Kansas. Burial with military honors will be in the Mound Township Cemetery, Moundridge, Kansas. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

His survivors include: sister, Eileen Nelson of Salina, Kansas; a brother, Royce Loy of Clearwater, Florida; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Vera (Painter) Loy, his wife, Esther, a son, Gary, and a brother, Virgil Loy.
