Golda Shields

Golda M. (Sides) Clark Shields, 101, of McPherson, passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2008, at Memorial Hospital, McPherson. Golda was born on May 13, 1907, the daughter of George Washington and Sarah Jane (Miller) Sides. She graduated from Central College in 1930 and from McPherson College (B.A.) in 1962. She married Willard P. Clark in 1931. He passed away in 1939. On May 23, 1942, she was united in marriage to Glen E. Shields in Tribune, KS. He passed away on February 14, 1986. She taught school for over 25 years, mostly in Kansas rural schools but also at schools in Colorado and Illinois.

Golda was a member of the McPherson Free Methodist Church, McPherson Association of Retired School Personnel, and Kansas Association of Retired School Personnel.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 AM, Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, at the McPherson Free Methodist Church with Rev. Deb Somerville and Rev. Cindy Robinson officating. Burial will be in the McPherson Cemetery. Visitation is on Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family present from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.

Survivors include: sons, Norman Clark and wife, Barbara, of Reedville, VA and Galen Shields and wife, Donna, of McPherson, KS; daughter, Carolyn Streetman and husband, Philip, of Collinsville, IL; 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Willard P. Clark and Glen E. Shields, a brother, and five sisters.
